The National Private Truck Council (NPTC) is the pre-eminent, institutional authority on private fleet management in the United States (see our website at http://www.nptc.org/) for details. The Council's Fleet Learning Center delivers education and training that is practical, relevant, real-job focused and both convenient and affordable.

THE PRIVATE FLEET MANAGER

 

This course that you are about to navigate represents the most thorough and comprehensive body of applied knowledge, information and skills in the private fleet field. The course is continuously updated with the most recent government regulations and industry best-practices. The subject-matter content is generally advanced-basic to intermediate levels of comprehension.

It is designed for practicing private fleet managers seeking continuous improvement in on-the-job performance through training. It is not intended as an academic course in theory and abstractions.  The language used is direct and to-the-point without use of expert quotations or foot-note references.

HOW WE DESIGNED THE CURRICULUM 

The curriculum is based upon a comprehensive job analysis study conducted by NPTC of its members.  The study identified 47 tasks focusing on the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to successful private fleet management. These have been categorized into five core disciplines:

• Finance
• Safety
• Human Resources
• Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance
• Operations

To ensure that the tasks were relevant, they were reviewed by 300 transportation professionals to determine how critical each task was to the job and the frequency with which each task was performed. The results of that job analysis were used to guide the development of the content.

To guide the course development and to ensure its relevance and accuracy, NPTC assembled an advisory board of subject matter experts & private fleet executives acclaimed for their knowledge in the various disciplines. This first-rate faculty of successful private fleet management practitioners opened up their extensive data banks of information, experience, and knowledge to Tom Moore, CTP, the author and editor of this curriculum. After a comprehensive review of resource materials, an exhaustive series of interviews, in-depth conversations, and countless fleet visits, Mr. Moore crafted those leadership and management principles into the following body of knowledge.

REAL-JOB, REAL-WORLD APPLICATION TEST

To validate the curriculum, the steering committee then was given an opportunity to "test drive" the training materials and the on-line training.
